The Purple Shades are an unsigned, Midlands based, four piece, alternative pop punk band.
The band was formed in 2011 by Dylan Boddy & Sam Hennerley whilst at Pershore High School and they first performed together under their own names that year at “Peopleton’s got Talent”. They were joined in 2012 by Bass player and school friend Charlie Brooks and after much discussion and deliberation they decided on the name of The Purple Shades. From those early days they were regular players at the Wednesday night “Jam” sessions at the Marrs Barr in Worcester and were taken under the wings there, by owner Brian Marr & Vince Ballard. The whole band and it’s growing number of followers, still love Wednesday nights at the Marrs Bar.
The first gig the trio played together was to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee at The Crown, Peopleton. As the band’s sound evolved, so did the numbers. Tom Adams joined in mid 2012 as another guitarist, playing several gigs until leaving later the same year. He has, however, since guested on several occasions at Shades gigs. Three became four again early in 2013 when Jack Seckham joined as a guitaist and vocalist, bringing a different sound to the group before he left later in 2013 to go solo.
The bands current line up was complete in early 2014 with the edition of lead guitarist George Bowles.
In September 2014 they released their first album “Wit of the Staircase”. The album was self produced by Dylan Boddy & George Bowles with all 12 tracks on it being originals. It is available to download on most of the recognised online retailers including itunes, Amazon and Spotify, and several tracks have been played on BBC Hereford & Worcester introducing.
The Purple Shades are supported by the M.A.S RECORDS music development programme. M.A.S Records, who were founded by Kevyn Gammond (ex-Band of Joy), with Robert Plant (ex-Led Zeppelin) and Karl Hyde (Underworld) as its patrons, provide the band with rehearsal and recording time, experience and advice.
During 2014 they played at numerous gigs and festivals. They played at the o2 academy, Birmingham, in February 2015 and have an exciting programme of gigs planned for 2015, as well as working on a lot more new original work.
